[Please Note: The Basic Course on DIR/Floortime for Infancy and Early Childhood WILL return in early 2011.]
The Basic Course includes:
- Dynamic developmental approaches to observation, assessment, and intervention planning including the Functional Emotional Assessment Scale (FEAS) and methods to meet both clinical and administrative requirements.
- A comprehensive developmental approach to intervention based on functional developmental level, individual differences, and interactive relationships (DIR® Model, Floortime™).
- Interventions for different subtypes of (1) severe communication and relationship problems, including Autistic Spectrum Disorders and Multisystem Developmental Disorders, (2) regulatory, learning and behavior disorders, and (3) environmental and family disturbances.
In addition, the Course will include segments on:
- Promoting the qualities that make children Great Kids such as empathy, curiosity and logical thinking. Based on the book: Great Kids. Helping Your Baby and Child Develop the 10 Essential Qualities for a Healthy, Happy Life. (2007) By Stanley I. Greenspan, M.D., Da Capo Press.
- Autism Spectrum Disorders: prevention, early identification and early intervention
- Developmental insights on difficulties with attention, obsessive compulsive behavior and anxiety in children with ASD
- Tailoring education to each child’s unique interests, strengths and challenges; enabling all children to become active learners.
Logistics
The course will be presented as a series of video lectures by Dr. Greenspan. The material will be divided into 15 segments, each approximately one hour long. Access will be available 24 hours a day, every day from [new dates to be posted for 2011]. Participants will be able to view the segments sequentially at their own pace, any time during the eight week period the course is offered. There will be opportunities for self-evaluation, as well question and answer sessions with Dr. Greenspan. Handouts will be posted on the conference website.
All registered participants will receive a certificate of attendance. In addition, interested participants will also have the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of the basic concepts presented during the Training Course. Those that are successful will receive documentation of their mastery of the Basic Course.
Registered participants will receive a confirmation email with complete instructions on how to access the conference. Each participant must have his or her own assigned log-in and password to attend the course.
