Learn how your child processes what they see, hear, touch, smell and taste.
The Greenspan Floortime Approach Sensory Assessment is designed to evaluate your child’s strengths and weaknesses, and provide feedback about the types of interactions that will help your child manage sensory processing difficulties (as laid out by The Greenspan Floortime Approach professional course).
When a child has sensory sensitivies, regardless of the cause, it’s important to develop an intervention strategy that addresses the whole child. The more information you have, the better you can understand what your child needs. Caregivers play a critical role in supporting children and helping them overcome their challenges. Assessing your child is the first step.
The sensory assessment will help you better understand how your child processes what they see, hear, touch, smell and taste, as well as how they move in space. The assessment will gauge how your child reacts to sensory stimuli and integrates sensory information. The questions are straightforward, and answers should be based on your observations. At the end of the assessment, you will receive feedback on your child’s sensory profile, with recommendations on which types of interactions can help them to manage their sensitivities. The assessment is free and can be used many times over the course of a year, or over several years. We encourage you to track your child’s progress using the assessment, and to use the results in concert with the professional course or the Floortime Manual.
Keep in mind that all children with autism will have some type of sensory processing difficulties, but not all children with sensory processing difficulties are autistic. If you are concerned that your child has been misdiagnosed, we recommend you contact a Greenspan Floortime certified practicioner for another opinion. You can find a list of certified therapists here, or you can request a referral.
